Where: E-YUVA Centre, Adamas University, Kolkata, West Bengal (Supported by BIRAC)

The hands-on training program encompasses a comprehensive journey through essential molecular biology techniques, starting with RNA isolation, where participants learn various methods like phenol-chloroform extraction and column-based purification, focusing on RNA integrity assessment via spectrophotometry and gel electrophoresis.

Subsequently, they delve into cDNA synthesis, mastering the reverse transcription process to convert RNA into cDNA, with emphasis on primer selection and troubleshooting. Participants then advance to Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), gaining practical expertise in primer design, reaction setup, and optimization strategies to amplify target DNA fragments efficiently.

Finally, the training culminates in agarose gel electrophoresis, where attendees learn the principles of nucleic acid separation and visualization, loading and running PCR products on gels, and interpreting gel images while troubleshooting common issues.

By the end, participants acquire the skills necessary for independent execution of these techniques, essential for molecular biology research, and are equipped to address challenges encountered during experimentation.

Objective:

1. Understand Fundamental Principles: Participants will gain a comprehensive understanding of the fundamental principles underlying RNA isolation, cDNA synthesis, PCR, and agarose gel electrophoresis, including the biochemical processes involved, the rationale behind each step, and the importance of quality control measures.

2. Acquire Practical Skills: Through hands-on practice and demonstrations, participants will acquire practical skills in performing each technique, including proficiency in laboratory protocols, proper handling of reagents and equipment, and adherence to safety procedures.

3. Develop Troubleshooting Abilities: Participants will develop the ability to troubleshoot common challenges encountered during each stage of the experimental process, such as RNA degradation, inadequate cDNA synthesis, suboptimal PCR amplification, and gel electrophoresis artifacts. They will learn to identify potential issues, implement appropriate troubleshooting strategies, and optimize experimental conditions to achieve successful outcomes.
